Ggantija Temples, the oldest free-standing monuments in the world dating back over 7000 years. Situated on the edge of a plateau, these magnificent two temples are possibly the most impressive and well preserved in the Maltese Islands.
The Citadel, a small fortified city resembling a medieval castle was built just over one 1000 years ago as a defence against frequent attacks by corsairs from the Barbary Coast. One can wander through the narrow ancient streets, visiting the cathedral, a few museums, and able to walk the ramparts enjoying the many panoramic views.
Ta' Pinu Sanctuary, the most popular place of pilgrimage on the archipelago. A national shrine, this neo-Romanesque limestone structure is dedicated to Saint Mary.
