Mġarr Ix-Xini

Mġarr Ix-Xini is our favourite spot for night dives. The seabed is mainly made up of sand with small boulders on the side and neptune grass meadows along the middle. Two interesting caves are also found on the west side of the valley.

Mġarr ix-Xini is our preferred destination for thrilling night dives in Malta. The sandy seabed, adorned with small boulders and neptune grass meadows, sets the stage for underwater exploration. On the west side of the valley, two intriguing caves await discovery. While the site may not immediately captivate, it holds a hidden realm where divers encounter rarely seen species, including various gurnards, seahorses, pipefish, weaver-fish, sea-hare, and star-gazers.

Delve into the depths to witness an array of marine life, from lizardfish, goatfish, seabream, scorpionfish, octopus, cuttlefish, flounder to baby rays. The bay of Mġarr ix-Xini, located in the south of Gozo, offers a tranquil underwater world with a sandy bottom sloping gently towards the bay’s mouth. At depths of six and sixteen meters, caves provide unique opportunities for exploration, conveniently located below a cliff along the right-hand wall.

Although initially unassuming, Mġarr ix-Xini reveals its allure beneath the surface. This dive site stands out for its rare fish species and two captivating caves on the west side. Popular among photographers for its diverse marine life, including gurnards, stargazers, and seahorses, it also features a surfaced cave for added intrigue.
