Gudja Cave

The Gudja Cave dive site starts by entering a cave only 8 m deep and about 6 m high above sea level. However, after just a few metres in, the floor of the cave disappears, abruptly falling to a depth of 30 m. Almost exactly beneath the entrance, a massive arch stretches down from 20 m right to the seabed at 34 m, making an ideal and spectacular exit from this cave.

Gudja Cave, situated on Gozo’s north coast, stands as the most renowned cave in the region, accessible only by boat and rarely explored. Gudja Cave can be combined to another dive called Taċ-Ċawla which is found in very close proximity and consists of 2 caves and 2 caverns.

With an entrance reaching the seabed at 30 meters, this dive is reserved for advanced and experienced divers. The cave’s passage narrows, gradually shallowing until a six-meter deep crack is encountered, often revealing a mesmerizing halocline and leading to a small air chamber.

Located in the north of Gozo, Gudja Cave offers a unique corridor-like experience with a freshwater source in the back. Delving into the cave unveils a fascinating phenomenon—a mix of fresh and seawater with stunning light effects. This underwater wonder is a boat dive, exclusively for advanced divers, offering depths ranging from 20 to 35 meters.

As divers explore Gudja Cave, a diverse aquatic life unfolds, featuring nudibranchs, damsels, sea breams, and an abundance of fish in the vibrant blue surroundings. The cave walls showcase colorful sponges, adding to the visual richness of this underwater adventure.

For those seeking an extraordinary dive in Gozo’s pristine waters, Gudja Cave promises an immersive experience, combining geological wonders, unique underwater phenomena, and a thriving marine ecosystem.
