Inland Sea

A small enclosed bay at Dwejra Point is connected to the open sea through a large tunnel stretching approximately 80 m. The walls on both sides are deep, vertical and overhanging for most of the way.

Located in the northern part of Gozo near Blue Hole, the Inland Sea is an essential dive site that demands exploration. This site boasts a small body of water separated from the open sea by an extensive wall, featuring a remarkable 80-meter-long tunnel providing access to the open sea.

Embarking on this dive adventure, you’ll be presented with a choice between two directions: left or right. Opting for the left path reveals a vertical wall teeming with diverse fish species. After approximately 20 minutes, an intriguing cave named Old Man Cave awaits, with caution advised due to frequent visits by tourist boats, and the maximum depth reaching 18 meters.

Conversely, choosing the right direction leads you to a lively vertical reef. Around 15 minutes into the journey, a captivating cave adorned with fascinating rock formations comes into view. Continuing in this direction, another sizable cave unveils itself after an additional 15 minutes.

This underwater exploration requires a minimum certification of Open Water Diver (OWD), promising a remarkable adventure suitable for divers of varying skill levels.

As you navigate the dive, the tunnel initially starts at a depth of only 6 meters, swiftly dropping to 15 meters, and reaching a seabed depth of 25 meters halfway through. The panoramic view of the deep indigo blue open ocean is nothing short of spectacular. Turning around corners to both the left and right reveals additional vertical fissures and caves in the cliff face, offering exploration opportunities, while the marine life in this area is exceptionally prolific.
