Xlendi Cave & Reef

On the northern wall of Xlendi Bay lays Xlendi Cave & Reef. A very shallow tunnel opens up from the back of a Cave and runs right through the headland.

Xlendi Bay presents captivating dive opportunities, featuring a mesmerizing 70-meter-long shallow tunnel cave and a scenic reef bustling with marine life. Acknowledged as one of Gozo’s most accessible sites, it serves as an excellent location for dive training and beginners. The deeper reef offers an ideal setting for technical dive training, while the shallow bay provides an enchanting backdrop for night diving. Popular for swimming and snorkeling, Xlendi Bay accommodates both shore and boat dives. Shore dives initiate from the south side, utilizing a concrete diving platform with metal steps that are typically removed in winter. Positioned opposite the entry/exit point, the tunnel and reef dive sites beckon on the bay’s other side. Caution is advised for boat traffic when traversing the bay. While mostly sheltered, Xlendi Bay can become rough with southwesterly winds. Additionally, after heavy rain, visibility may be compromised as the valley behind the village directs rainwater from surrounding areas into the bay. As you emerge from the tunnel, navigate along the cliff wall to the left, heading towards the gradual outer drop-off and encircling the underwater Reef extending from the headland.
