Prerequisites for Diving
When considering diving courses, it’s essential to understand the prerequisites for each level of certification. At Atlantis Diving Centre, we provide detailed information about the requirements for each course on our dive courses section. Here are some key points to keep in mind:
Example: Minimum Age and Entry-Level Qualifications
PADI OWD Course: The minimum age for the Open Water Diver course is 10 years. This course is designed for beginners with no previous diving experience required. Please note you must have basic swimming skills.
Advanced Diver AOW Course: To enroll in the Advanced Open Water Diver course, you must be at least 12 years old and hold an Open Water Diver certification.
PADI Divemaster Courses: To enrol in the Divemaster program candidates must be 18 years, hold a minimum certification of rescue diver with 40 logged dives. You must have a doctor clear you for diving by having a signed Diver medical form.
PADI IDC Courses: To enrol in the IDC Instructor development course program candidates must be 18 years, hold a minimum certification of Divemaster with 100 logged dives. You must have a doctor clear you for diving by having a signed Diver medical form.

Health Requirements
Regardless of the course, all divers must be in good health. But what does this mean? When you sign up for training, you will be asked to complete a diver medical form. If you are in good health, your answers will reflect this, and you can proceed with the course.
Medical Questionnaire and Doctor Consultation
Do you need to see a doctor to sign the diver medical form?
The purpose of the medical questionnaire is to determine whether you need to be examined by a physician before participating in any underwater activity. A positive response to any question means that you must consult a physician. Atlantis Diving Centre offers the service of a doctor specialized in diving medicine for those who need a medical check-up, with a cost of €60.00. Medical certificates from abroad are accepted, but we always recommend a doctor’s medical check-up before going to the sea.
Additional Requirements for Minors and Unaccompanied Divers
- Divers Under 18: Divers under 18 years of age require written consent from a parent or guardian.
- Supervision for Beginners: Divers who are not yet qualified as Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent must be accompanied by an instructor at all times.
- Proof of Qualification: All divers, unless they are starting a beginner’s course, must show proof of their qualification and experience, such as certification and logbook, before diving.
- Transportation to Dive Sites: Unaccompanied divers must hire a car or jeep to reach dive sites. This service is provided by Atlantis Diving Centre.
