Skuljetti – Roger’s Cave

Skuljetti, meaning ‘Couple of Reefs’, stands to its name. After a fairly difficult walk over ancient coral-line limestone, two rocks lying close together approximately 30 m offshore come into view.

Venture into the underwater wonders of Rogers Cave, also known as Skuljetti, located in the mesmerizing Dwejra region of Gozo. The name Skuljetti translates to ‘Couple of Reefs,’ and true to its name, two rocks named Big Bear and Little Bear come into view about thirty meters offshore.

As you traverse the rough coralline limestone, the rocky seabed beckons at a depth of only five meters, leading to a thrilling vertical drop-off. Directly beneath the two rocks lies the intriguing Rogers Cave, adorned with small corals and sponges covering its sides and ceiling. Slipper lobsters are common inhabitants, adding to the allure of this underwater cavern.

Upon emerging from the cave, the journey continues along the wall to the right, encircling the larger rock. The seabed is strewn with boulders of various sizes, providing ideal refuge for a diverse range of marine species, including groupers and brown meagre.

Rogers Cave is not just a visual feast, but a haven for aquatic life. The vibrant marine ecosystem includes slipper lobsters, sponges, false coral, and an array of fish species. When diving recreationally, consider combining this adventure with a visit to Crocodile Rock. Follow the reef to the right, and upon exploring the cave, turn around the back reef on the left for a comprehensive underwater experience.

Dive into the depths of Rogers Cave to witness the captivating marine life that thrives within its rocky embrace. The combination of unique topography and abundant aquatic species makes this dive site a must-visit for enthusiasts exploring the underwater wonders of Gozo.
